Career
I studied biology at the University of Regensburg, Germany. After my graduation as Diplom-Biologist, I joined Prof Hartmut Michel's group at the Max-Plank-Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt/Main to do my doctoral thesis. During this time I was working in biochemistry and biophysics (isolation and characterisation of photosynthetic membrane proteins.). In 1991, I went as a postdoc to the Centre d' Etudes de Saclay, France, where I was involved in the investigation and characterisation of certain bacterial photosynthetic proteins. Since 1996 (after parental leaves 1994/95 and 1998/99), I have been working as a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry and Ecotoxicology at the Federal Institute of Hydrology in Koblenz, Germany. My research topics relate to all kinds of phytotoxic effects. I am responsible for the developement and application of macrophytic bioassays in the risk assessment of water quality.
SETAC Involvement
Since 2001 I have presented research projects at several SETAC conferences (Europe, North America) and I have participated in meetings of the Sediment Advisory Group. Since 2007 I am a member of the SETAC.
Motivation for standing for election
I would like to join the SETAC because I think that it is an ideal platform for the exchange of information and ideas of multidisciplinary scientific principles in the fields of ecotoxicology and sustainability. It connects science and decision-making in environmental policy. I would like to contribute to this by becoming a member of the SETAC-Europe council.
