Career
Jörn Wogram is a biologist with special interest in aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental hazard assessment. In 2003, he joined the Section of Ecotoxicological Assessment at the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA), where he is responsible for the coordination of the ecotoxicological assessment of plant protection products. Jörn Wogram studied biology with emphasis on ecology at the University of Braunschweig, where he also obtained his PhD in 2001. During his academic carreer, he lead or contributed to several scientific projects in the fields of limnology, effect and exposure monitoring of pesticides in streams, development of aquatic micro-/mesocosm test systems and the environmental behaviour and ecotoxicology of veterinary pharmaceuticals. Jörn Wogram has co-organised several scientific workshops and congresses. He has a teaching position at the University of Landau and is a nominated national expert in the OECD test guideline programme.
SETAC Involvement
Jörn Wogram has joined SETAC Europe in 2007. Before that, he was involved in several SETAC activities: active participation in SETAC Europe and SETAC GLB annual meetings and SETAC workshops since 2002, co-organisation of the Joint European Southern African International Conference "Pesticides in non-target agricultural environments" in 2003 which lead to the foundation of SETAC Africa Branch, member of the scientific committee of the SETAC German Language Branch annual meeting in 2007, co-organiser and teacher in the German post-graduate study course "Ecotoxicology" (supported by SETAC GLB) since 2005.
Motivation for standing for election
*Promoting scientific education: SETAC GLB has made very good experiences with its post-graduate study course "Ecotoxicology" in Germany. If SETAC Europe is interested in a similar course at the European level, I would like to bring in my own experiences. *Enhancing the interface between science and regulatory affairs: SETAC meetings have always served as a forum for communication between ecotoxicologists and risk assessors. However, some current regulatory problems rather belong to the borderland between ecology and ecotoxicology. I would like to bring forward an integration of field eco(toxico)logy and population modelling into future SETAC activities (e.g., workshops, conference sessions).
