Career
Fred Heimbach is a research scientist with over 25 years experience in ecotoxicology gained in business and academia He obtained his Masters degree and PhD in Biology from the University of Cologne in 1973 and 1976, respectively. From 1976 to 1979 he conducted basic research on marine insects at the Institute of Zoology, University of Cologne. Since 1979 he has worked at Bayer CropScience (former Bayer AG) where is main field of interest has been the side effects of pesticides on non-target organisms. As an active member of both European and International Working Groups, he has participated in the development of methods for assessing the potential effects of pesticides and other chemicals on non-target organisms. In addition to his work at Bayer CropScience, Fred gives lectures on ecotoxicology at the University of Cologne.
SETAC Involvement
Fred was a cofounder of SETAC Europe and has been an active member of the society since then. He has co-organised SETAC Europe workshops on earthworm ecotoxicology, effects of pesticides on soil functioning, field testing and higher tier risk aquatic and terrestrial assessment, and has chaired and organised sessions at several SETAC Europe annual meetings.
