Career
After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Biology, David studied for an MSc in Behavioural Ecology, focussing predominantly on field studies of social insects in Australia and the UK. Whilst in Australia, he also conducted statistical work on behalf of the Wildlife Information and Rescue Service (WIRES, NSW), required for submission to the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Just prior to graduating David was employed as a Research Scientist at the Chemical Entomology Unit of Southampton University, where he worked on a wide range of agricultural and domestic insect pest species in the UK and overseas.
In 1999 he joined a small contract research group based at Southampton University, where he was involved in regulatory testing for plant protection products with non-target arthropods. In 2001, David moved to a larger contract research organisation, where he was summarily engaged in the implementation and conduct of terrestrial ecotoxicological studies, field trial monitoring and environmental risk assessment.
In 2003, he accepted the position of Senior Ecotoxicologist with the Environmental Risk Assessment Team at Central Science Laboratory.
SETAC Involvement
David has been a member of SETAC for the last four years and regularly attends the SETAC Europe meetings. He is an organising committee member for one of the SETAC Europe advisory groups (Developing Toxicity Test Guidelines for Dung Beetles and Dung Flies (DOTTS)) and a member of the Finance and the Scientific Advisory Group Committees.
