Career
Joke studied biology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and received a Ph.D in ecotoxicology in 1992 at the same university. She started to work for the Soil Protection Technical Committee in 1989. Since 1991 she has been deputy general secretary and since 2004 she is general secretary of the committee.
The Soil Protection Technical Committee (TCB in Dutch) gives advice on technical and scientific aspects of soil protection. The committee is generally consulted by the ministries of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment (VROM) and Agriculture, Nature and Food quality (LNV). Because of the wide circulation of the reports of the committee, other public bodies and engineering companies benefit indirectly from TCB’s work.
TCB consists of experienced professionals involved in the technical and scientific aspects of soil protection such as hydrology, cultivation techniques, soil science, toxicology and ecology. Besides its advisory capacity, TCB has an informative function. TCB also functions as a platform for discussion.
